We love this. It's like Char Siew 叉烧 aka Chinese BBQ Pork. Best to go with rice!
Ingredients:
- 500g Meaty Pork Ribs, slightly fatty preferred
- 5 tablespoon Light Soy Sauce
- 4 tablespoon Sugar
- 3 tablespoon Maple Syrup or 1 tablespoon Honey
- 3 tablespoon Chinese Cooking Wine
- 2 tablespoon Apple Cider
- 2 tablespoon Tomato Sauce
- 400ml Water
How to do it:
- Blanch ribs.
- Add blanched ribs to all ingredients combined.
- Bring to a boil and reduced to a simmer.
- Simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
- Remove ribs and set aside.
- Continue to boil the sauce till it's reduced by half and to a thick consistence.
- Place ribs in a foil wrapped baking tray.
- Spread the sauce on the ribs and baked for 10 minutes.
- Bring out ribs to spread with more sauce
- Return to bake for another 10 minutes.
- Turn the ribs over, spread sauce on it and bake for another15 minutes.
- Spread sauce again half way through the baking.
- Remove and serve.
Note:
I bake at 150c for my oven. Please adjust the temperate and/or timing according to your oven. The ribs should not burn fast. We want coat it well with sauce.

WokkingMum, I did this for dinner just now. Just wanna lest you know it tasted great. But it was a little sweet though for me. Apart from that, everyone likes it. Thank you. Keep the good posts coming in.
ReplyDeletep/s: I commented wrongly for the roasted potato. That was awesome with the exception that I baked it for 75mins instead of 60mins. Thank you for both posts!
Quinn, :P I got sweet tooth lah. But I have cut down on the sugar now too. Glad you guys liked the idea.
ReplyDeleteDear WokkingMum,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this recipe. I cooked it today and my whole family likes this a lot :) can't wait to try out your other recipes.
couple of things - i assume you cut the ribs into individual pieces? also, how long do you blanch them for?
ReplyDeleteCC, You're welcome.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, Yes, I cut the ribs into individual pieces. Depending on how thick your ribs are, I blanched mine for around 10 minutes.
Hi there, I will try this soon - I only have a toaster oven now. :) Everything's the same except have to monitor and modify cooking accordingly I suppose?
