Broccoli and Cauliflower with Shimeiji Mushrooms

This is a healthy veggie dish. Not actually my kids' favourite kind of dish but my son will still support by eating a piece of broccoli or two and he will finish all the carrots.

I like all the veggies here whether or not there are fans at home. I'll finish the whole dish if no one wants it. It's nice, what!

Ingredients:
  • 1 handful of Broccoli florets
  • 1 handful of Cauliflower florets
  • 1 handful of Shimeiji Mushrooms
  • A few slices of Carrot
  • 1 teaspoon Minced Garlic
  • 5 tablespoon Broth
  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Cornflour Mixture (thickener)
How to do it:
  1. Blanch broccoli and cauliflower florets for 8 minutes with a teaspoon of salt and 1/2 tablespoon oil.
  2. Drain and set aside.
  3. Heat wok with 1/2 tablespoon oil.
  4. Stir fried garlic till fragrant.
  5. Add in shimeiji mushroom and stir fried for 5 minutes.
  6. Add in the broth, broccoli and cauliflower.
  7. Add salt to taste.
  8. When broth begin to simmer, gradually add cornflour mixture to thicken.
  9. Dish and serve.

  3. Hi,

Look like a nice dish, my favourite:) Can check with you what does it means to Blanch brcoolic and cauliflower florets for 8 minutes. That's mean put all the things inside hot water for 8 minutes?

What is 5 tablespoon of Broth? Where can I buy it? Cornflour Mixture as in Clorn flour add with water?

    Hope to learn from you.

    Thanks

  4. Sherri,
Yes, you 'cook' in hot water then remove and let in sit in previously boiled cooled water to stop the cooking.

I make my own broth and freeze it in ice cube trays. You can use those carton or canned broth if you like. Can get in supermarket.

Yesm cornflour mixture is corn flour add water.

    Hope this clarifies. ;)

  5. Hi,

Had you used Knorr brand chicken cube before? Is it healthy. 5 tablespoon equals to 1 knorr chicken cube?

As for flour, no actual measurement needed right? Just mix the some flour with some water will help right?

Sorry for so many questions, cuz never cook b4 & wish to learn to cook.

    Thanks

  6. Sherri,
Use Knorr Chicken Broth instead. If you are using cubes you have to liquify it first. Not too sure abt the cube type.

For cornflour, I always do 1 part flour to 2 part water. It depends on how stachy you want your sauce to be.

It's not a problem at all. I'm glad to be of help. It's always great to know someone is being busy in the kitchen. Hope you will continue cooking and love it too. ;)

  8. Sherri,
It means, if you are using 1 tsp flour (that will be 1 part) then 2 part water will be 2 tsps. ;)

  11. Sherri,
Glad to hear you are loving to cook. :D

Thanks. I'm not great but just fortunate to have a hubby who doesnt mind being my guinea pig when I just started cooking.

When I just started cooking, I follow exactly what the cookbooks says. Now I just develop my own cooking style. I create most of the recipes here or I improvised recipes I like to suit our taste bcos my dishes are quite common home cooked food. You can see it everywhere ;)

I love Jaden's Steamy Kitchen, Rasa Malaysia & Teczcape. They are the PROs!!! Great food and beautiful photos! You can get their links on the right side of my blog. Check them out. ;)
