Pan Fied Salmon with Mashed Cauliflower

I saw this meal suggestion in a magazine a couple of years ago and it has since became one of the regular dinners I cook for my husband.

In the picture here, I used salmon and asparagus with cauliflower mash. Sometimes, I use other white fish  and other veggies to pair them.

  • 150g Salmon
  • 110g Cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 3-4 Asparagus
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon Margarine or Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Light Soy Sauce
  • Flour for dusting
  • Oil for pan frying
  • Ground Black Pepper

How to do it:
  1. Marinade salmon with soy sauce.
  2. Set aside to prepare the cauliflower mash.
  3. Cook cauliflower in salted water for 5 minutes or till slightly soften.
  4. Drain and blend the cauliflower with half the margarine.
  5. Cook the asparagus together with the cauliflower but remove after 1 minute.
  6. Dust the salmon with flour.
  7. Pan fry the salmon, skin side down first for 5 minutes or till lightly browned.
  8. Flip over to pan fry for another minute or till cooked.
  9. Place the salmon with the cauliflower mash and asparagus.
  10. Either drizzle melted margarine over it or let it melt on the salmon.
  11. Sprinkle ground black pepper over it.
  12. Serve immediately.

Mashed Cauliflower

  1. Em..... this is interesting!!!! Cauliflower mash!!! I shall try this over the weekend when I get hold of some salmon :) Thanks for sharing...

  2. You presented them so well Elaine! What is that little brown piece you placed on the cauliflower mash? Is it sliced garlic, fried to perfection?

  3. I thought the mashed cauliflower is mashed potato, it looks alike; What a good idea ! I'll try it sometime soon cos my hubby loves cauliflower ! :)

  4. Cuisine Paradise, You are most welcome.

Quinn, Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, you are right. It's fried garlic. :)

Anyhow-cook, Fooled you didn't I? I think it's better than mashed potato. Hope your hubby will like it. :)

  5. Wow, yes. the cauliflower mash is a great idea! shall try it next time.

I have another suggestion for pan-frying salmon which is easy and yummy!

just marinate the salmon with a bit of salt to taste, dust it with cornflour, and sprinkle Italian Dressing (the herbs in a bottle) all over it and pan-fry it in olive oil.

    Healthy and yummy! :)

  6. Bonnie, Hope you'll like the mash with you do it and thanks for the suggestion on the salmon. Will try it soon!
