Durian Cake

My first recipe after a long break. I had wanted to post other recipes but I had to redo those dishes again just to make sure the quantity is right. So this is easier as I had referred this from a magazine. :P

I did this when durian was not in season but I just happened to see them in a supermarket. I knew I had to buy them. I ate some and when I saw the durian cake recipe from a magazine, I kept the rest for it.

This recipe, like the 15 minutes Cupcake, is really easy and almost fail proof. Try it if you like durian.

  • 250g Mashed Durian Flesh (original was using 170g)
  • 250g Butter
  • 150g Castor Sugar (original was using 180g)
  • 5 Eggs
  • 240g Flour, sifted (Plain/All purpose)
  • 2 teaspoon Baking Powder, sifted

How to do it:
  1. Cream butter and sugar til light fluffy.
  2. Add one egg at a time and continue beating.
  3. Add in durian gradually and beat for 2 1/2 minutes.
  4. Add in flour and baking powder.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Pour batter into a greased and lined 25cm X 25cam baking tray. ( I baked in 6' rectangle tin and muffin cups)
  7. Bake at 180C for 40 to 50 minutes or till cake is done (check using toothpick)

  3. They look so good n fluffy. Makes me want to buy some durians though I seldom crave for it :P

  4. JS, Hahaha ... it should. At least you would be tasting the fruit directly. And you have adjust the amount of durian you want to put it. Hope you will enjoy it. ;)

Khongfamily, Yeah, I'm back. ;) It's pretty easy. Try when you are free but hopefully not when durian is out of season. :P

Noobcook, yeah, it's very moist and quite addictive. :P

  5. I can smell the aroma wafting through your kitchen and house already. ^_^

  6. i loveeee durian and always think that it is such a way to tamper its beauty...but i opened up my mind and made a steamed cake. this baked one looks excellent too...lemme wait til i can get my hands on some more durian ^_^

  7. Argus Lou,
Haha ... Hopefully, my neighbours dont complain.

    Mochachocolata Rita,
You love durian? Serious? You made a steamed durian cake? Oo... Will check out your blog.

  8. Just finished baking this ... came out excellent! Thanks very much for the recipe!

We bought frozen durian the other day, which gave us too much durian. I just made 2 Durian Cheesecake but I still had a lot of leftover.

Found your recipe and I tried it! I cut down on the sugar, add 2 tbsp yogurt and added an additional 50g of durian flesh!

My husband still complains not enough durian "taste" ... maybe bcos it's frozen!!!

Anyway, Thanks for sharing your recipe!

  9. Hello,
Just wondering around how long did it take for you to bake the cake in the rectangle tin and muffin cups? Was is still around 40 minutes? I have a 23cm x 12cm loaf tin, can I use that instead? Sorry for asking so many questions. Thank you.

  10. Jess,
If you are using tin, it will be longer. Try baking for 50 to 60 minutes depending on your oven. I always use muffin cups. It's fast and I can bake more at a time for sharing. ;)

  11. Hi Wokkingmum,I just started learning how to bake and chanced upon ur webite. Can I know what do you mean by '1.Cream butter and sugar til light fluffy' in step 1?

  12. @Ng, You combine the 2 ingredients and whip/beat it together, till the mixture is creamy looking.

  13. hi,can i use a whisk to beat or do i have to use a electric mixer?thanks.

  14. @Ng, You don't have to use a mixer. It just make things easier and faster. A whisk will work just fine. :)

  15. Where can I get Mashed Durian Flesh?

  16. Anonymous, I'm not sure if you can get it locally. I have not seen it before. Best to get a durian and make it yourself.

  17. Thank you! I tried this today and my family loved it :) It's durian season again, let's all rejoice :D

  18. I just tried this and it turned out beautifully! :) thanks for the super easy simplified recipe and steps!
